Millennium Park

Millennium Park
(The audio link is at the end of this page)

I had the opportunity to go to the Millennium Park after school, with my young classmate Keila. I had never been there in summer time. That day was sunny and warm. There were many people of all ages. Some of them were taking picture, some students doing homework, walking, talking. It seemed to me that everyone was so happy to be there. Keila and I visited many sections of this park, finding more interesting this time the Wrigley Square, The Harris Theater and the cloud Gate.

First, we went to the Wrigley Square here there is a semicircle  monument made with twenty four columns called The Peristyle. It looks very similar to the ancient Greek buildings, making an interesting contrast with the nearest modern buildings of Chicago.

According to Millennium Park Foundation, this monument is nearly full-sized of the old Peristyle located at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Randolph Street between 1917 and 1953.

After that, we went to visit the Harris Theater. This construction has an spectacular design, it looks like many ribbons coming from a box.The out side area of the park is big and limited by an oval shape sidewalk. This sidewalk is the base of twenty four pedestals that supports a huge net made of long bars.

Chicago.gov reports that the Theater was named after philanthropist and primary co-founders John Irving b. Harris. the purpose of the theater was to have a place for many performing companies. The lobby is inside and the theater is underground.

One of the most outstanding attraction is the Cloud Gate, which is better known for its nickname the bin. According with the city of Chicago audio this was constructed from 2004 to 2006, it was designed by Anish Kapoor. It was built with 168 panels of stainless steel highly polished.

To finish our course, we decided to talk to the people. My target was  the park security ward, named Perish Wallcer who kindly told me that people like very much spend time at the park because it is a nice place to come and there are many events like movie nights, performances.

To conclude I'd like to say that Millennium Park is one the major attractions in Chicago. It seems that time does not pass while you enjoy this beautiful place, and I perceived that people are more happy and nicer when they are here. We had a pleasant time visiting Millennium Park.
